The Right Way to Hold a Halter

Weaver Livestock ProStaffer Jon Gevelinger explains the right way to hold a halter when showing your calf. With these tips, you'll have more control and be able to smoothly transition from leading your calf to standing still.

When leading, the hand holding the halter can be palm up or down. Keep your grip close to your calf, but leave enough slack that they can move their head and walk comfortably.

When you’re standing still, choke up more on the halter and your always have your palm facing up. This gives you more leverage to keep your calf’s head up.
